Description: GROOMING UP OF GREAT TEACHERS FOR HOLISTIC EDUCATION
In view of the changing scenario in the field of education and a growing need for effective educators at the School level, an inspiring and informative Seminar for teachers of Loreto Convent, Doranda, Ranchi, was conducted by Father Norbert Menezes, S J ( a renowned Jesuit Priest from Patna Province) in the school auditorium on 14th and 15th March, 2015.
The seminar focused on the theme of ‘Becoming a great Teacher’. A great emphasis was laid on the teachers’ ‘Personal growth’, without which ‘Progress at the Professional level’ is not possible. The emotional baggage hat is carried by individuals hampers personal growth. One should make a conscious effort to shed this baggage which is a great deterrent to progress. ‘Inspiring’ and ‘Informed’ teachers have a positive influence on students. Hence the ‘Passion’ or zeal to achieve the set goal is important.
The focus in education today has shifted from ‘Teaching’ to ‘Learning’. The teacher needs to improve her skills. ‘Student talk’ is equally important as ‘Teacher talk’. One cannot ignore the importance of ‘Cognitive Development’ but at the same time the effort of the teacher should be directed towards ‘Holistic Development’ of the students. A teacher with a holistic approach alone can facilitate education which aims at achieving holistic development f the student.
The seminar included activities, group discussions and case studies which enthused the teachers and inspired them to make a determined effort to develop as great educators.
The two-day seminar was a very interesting and motivating one which reinstated the faith of the teachers in the nobility of their vocation. The teachers were grateful to their Principal, Sister Anjuman for arranging this valuable Seminar under the able guidance of such an experienced a knowledgeable Priest, Father Norbert.
