Description: The week long celebration of Van Mahotsav came to an end on Saturday, the 9th of July. This annual event is an effort in the ongoing crusade to some Mother Earth.
The programme began with a special assembly presented by the students of Class X-A, it included an enactment highlighting the pitiable condition of trees and one individual’s efforts to save them. The students also presented a sapling to the Principal, Mrs. Lakra. The assembly concluded with a power point presentation calling upon all to save nature and save trees.
This was followed by an Inter-House competition, where st6udents from the different houses showed power-point presentation with the environment as the central theme. Students of class IX highlighted the various movements launched in different parts of India with a view to safeguard the environment. The presentations beautifully depicted the ideas, people and activities of the Chipko movement, Narmada Bachao Andolan, Save Silent Valley Movement and Navdanya Movement.
The students of class X gave presentations on eminent environmentalists of India and their contributions. Ashok House showcased the journey of Padmashree Simon Oraon, while Gandhi House showcased the works of the famous ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali. Shakespeare House paid tribute to Bulu Imam, the environmental activist from Jharkhand who also works to protect and promote tribal culture. Tagore House showcased the contributions of Mrs. Maneka Gandhi, the famous MP, environmentalist and animal rights activist.
Shakespeare House was declared the best House, followed by Tagore and Ashoka Houses in the second and third positions respectively.
The Principal Mrs. Lakra in her concluding address asked the children to work in harmony with nature. The superior Sr. Marion Vaz also congratulated the children on their efforts and asked them to work together to save the environment.
